O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous.

Fasting three days every month equals fasting the entire year. The white days are when the moon is full and nights are bright.
(Fast) a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey (during them), then an equal number of days (are to be made up).
— Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:184

Friday — The Best of Days
The Prophet ﷺ recommended fasting on Thursday in connection with Friday, the master of all days.
O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for the prayer on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off business.
— Surah Al-Jumu'ah, 62:9
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'None of you should fast on Friday unless he fasts a day before it (Thursday) or a day after it (Saturday).'
— Sahih al-Bukhari 1986
The Prophet ﷺ used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. The combination of Thursday and Friday fasting is especially recommended.
— Sunan al-Tirmidhi 745
The recommendation is to fast on Thursday rather than Friday alone, as the Prophet ﷺ loved to fast on Thursday. Pairing Thursday with Friday combines the sunnah of fasting with the best day of the week.
— Imam an-Nawawi
Friday is the master of days. Fasting on Thursday in preparation for Jumu'ah shows reverence for this sacred day and connects the believer to the prophetic tradition of weekly spiritual renewal.
